Esther King Smith
RCM Junior Department teacher
Violin lessons
Esther is a prize-winning graduate of the Royal College of Music in London. She currently teaches in the Royal College of Music’s Junior Department, where she works with some of the country’s most talented young musicians. Her students have been successful in auditioning for places at UK music conservatoires and gaining places in national ensembles such as the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. She has also acted as a syllabus consultant for London College of Music Examinations.
About teaching, she says: I believe in teaching the whole musician and giving my students they need to become independent learners. This means consolidating theory and aural through the music we are learning, understanding the social and musical context of works being studied, all of which is backed up with solid technical teaching and musical development. I love teaching and I am of the firm belief that a good teacher-pupil relationship is a two-way process. Most of all, learning music should be fun and fulfilling!Dominic Doutney
